In this project an elaborate study of het urban heat island effect for the Ducth city of Tilburg was conducted. By means of satellite retrieved TIR images (Landsat) and the VITO urban climate model (UrbClim), maps of the urban land surface and air temperatures were created. The average and maximal urban heat island intensity was derived. Next, the UHI maps were interpreted by means of a number of geographical datasets such as fraction of built up area, fraction of vegetation, water bodies as well as 3D morphological parameters such as the sky view factor and frontal area index.
